III. The Non-Negotiable: Slurry Primer

A slurry primer is a polymer-modified cementitious "glue" that you brush onto the back of the porcelain tile before you lay it. It contains synthetic resins (polymers) that are sticky enough to grab onto the smooth porcelain, and cement particles that allow it to fuse with the wet mortar bed below.

The Rule: If you do not prime the back of outdoor porcelain, it will fail. It is not a matter of if, but when.
